Me and my work partner came up with some different ideas for our practical piece. i will now take you through some of the ideas that we came up with in class and the different areas we discussed including Music, genre, story lines etc. Here are some of the brain storms:

Idea 1  Biking Trailer
The music will start off slow with carming slow paced music. The music will them slowly build up throughout the trailer.as the music starts build we will use a lot of short clips so i fits with the pace of the music. We will start with some long shots to establish the location (forest) and then i variety of panning shots, close ups and maybe point of view shots through the biking sequence. We will need to look into other bike trailers to see what conventions of bike trailers are as they will be different to movie trailer. We are unsure of this idea though as we feel it would be hard to film and wouldnt be a movie but more of a documenry style and we feel it could be a risk if we choose this idea.

Idea 2  Basketball film
The music for this will be similar to what the biking film would be. It will start of slow and slowly build up throughout the trailer. The main story line of this trailer is about the hot shot basketballer gives the water boy a hard time but turns out he is very good at basketball. The hot shot doesn't like this and rivalry between the to starts to build up between them. There are many different camera angles we could use for this film and we have experience in filming a basketball film before as we have filmed and edited one before. there are several films that we could research into like Coach Carter and White Men Cant Jump.

Idea 3  Horror
Our final idea was to make a horror trailer. The storie line is that a group of friends go to the forest for a party. Slowly one by one they start disappearing through there time in the forest some gruesome things are found along the way. The difficult thing about this is it would have to be filmed at night and also getting enough actors for it coud be a problem.n

Below i will discuss the different conventions that take place when making a trialer:
  • Music is essential when making a trailer because it may suggest the genre of the film and sets the pace of the trailer
  • Give the audience an idea of the storyline and show some key moments of the film but without giving away the the whole story or plot.
  • Let the audience know what celebrity actors and directors/producers are starring in the film to make it appeal to a wider range of people even if its not there genre of film.
  • The title of the film and the release date of usually towards the end of the trailer. They are at the end because if its the last thing they see the more likely they willl remember it.
  • Alot of trialers use powerful voice overs at key momments to atract the audiences attention
  • Logo of film company who are budgeting your film. this will give to audinece an idea of the budget and the high the buget the better actors, special effects etc.
Other important things to take into acount wen making a film trialer is making sure it appeals to your target audience and ake it as appealing as posible by using different camera angles and popular soundtracks. More and more films are now 3D so it is important that the audience now this as 3D are very popular at the momment.

I have studied the new Piranha 3D film that has recently come out in the cinema. i will go through conventions of the trailer and click the link below to view.

The plot of the film is a party on Lake Victoria full of thousands people sourounding the Lake. But just before the party began a quake opened up underwater realesing a killer piraha fish that attacked every one on the Lake. a group of starangers work together to stop them selves from being fish food and ridk everything to save themselves from the carnivores.

The trailer has dramatic music to start but as the trailer progresses and more of the plot is reveled the music becomes more up beat and drums are used between the transaction of each sot to build up tennsion keeping the audience interested the music also hints to the type of genre which is horror/thriller. the title is revealed at the end of the trialer along with a huge 3D sign in the back ground making sure the audiene understand that it is 3D which is one of the films most appealing features. They include the directer and producer of The hlls have eyes and 300 with are both films tha people recognise. being horror and actions movies people that like either will be more interested and therefore building and audience by doing  this. the films unique selling point is that they are the first to do a horror about pirahas and this is a first. I have read comparisons that it is the modern day version of jaws and there is even a poster that is themed like the old jaws poster. another covention is the film has a tag like whish is 'How Fast Can You Swim' and they include this in the trailer between shots. this is used as a advertising and marketing technique, the idea behind it is that is suposed to create a memorable phrase that the audience may remember and stays in there memory and also sums up the film aswell

To concluded Piranha has used alot od the conventions required to mae a good appealling trailer espesially for a horror genre film.it appeals to its audience using music, punch lines and special effects and provides you with a good understanding of what the film is about but without giving to much away with some trailer do. clip the link below to view the trailer
